If your mornings start with your phone and end with you rushing out the door, this book offers a calmer way to begin, without 5 a.m. alarms or hour-long rituals.
You will learn how to set up your morning the night before with a ten-minute evening reset, how to protect your first ten minutes from messages and news, and how to practise a simple one-minute mindfulness exercise. Then you choose from six building blocks, stillness, movement, writing, nourishment, planning and joy, to create a routine you actually enjoy.
Ready-made templates cover 5, 15, 30 and 60 minutes, and a full chapter adapts them to real life: babies and small children, shift work, night owls, working from home, shared homes and travel. A 21-day plan helps you build the habit step by step, and a chapter on hard mornings shows you how to restart without guilt.

Before you do anything else, try this short practice. Stand or sit comfortably. Notice your feet on the floor. Take a breath in, and as you breathe out, silently say "here". Breathe in again and as you breathe out, say "now". Repeat for one minute. When your mind wanders to your to-do list, simply notice and return to "here, now". That is mindfulness. It is that simple, and that hard, and it gets easier with practice. Your routine is built from blocks. You do not need all of them. Pick two or three that genuinely appeal to you; you can always swap later. A routine you enjoy beats an impressive routine you dread. Make your tea or coffee slowly and drink the first few sips without doing anything else. Notice the warmth, the smell, the taste. Decide on the three things that would make today a success. Do the most important one first if you can. Rate your energy from one to ten and plan accordingly. A four-out-of-ten day needs a lighter list. New habits stick more easily when they are attached to things you already do. After I fill the kettle, I will stretch until it boils.
